Reaper | Move Things Down a Bit

With a name like "Reaper," we're going to have to expect some oddities. Here's the first.

In order to lessen the sound and even deaden the sound of the room tone track, we want to "turn down the volume" of our track.

We're going to need to install a little plugin into Reaper to make this possible. Here's how. I'll also do a video below showing you how to get the software and then how to make the "custom action."

  1. Download and install the free SWS/S&M extension: http://www.sws-extension.org.
  2. Only now can we create a Custom action in Reaper.

What we're doing is selecting a little bit of the audio file and then turning down the volume. Bear with me while we get techy and yucky for a minute. You'll be thankful you did later. No, really.

We want to make a "Make 4 Points and Decrease Envelope" custom action.

We'll need to add these 5 steps. See the fascinating video for how to do it.

  1. Track: Select pre-FX volume envelope
  2. Envelope: Insert 4 envelope points at time selection
  3. Envelopes: move selected points down a little bit
  4. Envelopes: move selected points down a little bit
  5. Envelopes: move selected points down a little bit

That should do the trick! Are we having fun yet?
